Trauma

I understand the importance of establishing safety in the room and in the therapy relationship before talking about what has happened even feels possible.
Dr Jen, the Psychology Haven

Trauma can happen when we experience something that feels threatening, overwhelming or very distressing, particularly when we feel unable to escape, cope with or make sense of what is happening.

This might involve a single event, such as an accident or assault, or develop through repeated experiences such as abuse, neglect, bullying or abusive relationships.

Our minds and bodies respond to traumatic events through understandable ways of coping with what’s happened.

You may notice a preoccupation with the incident/s, a confusion about what’s happened or the relationship where the trauma took place, there may be an impact on your self-esteem and confidence, you might find yourself avoiding certain situations or types of people, and your sleep may be impacted.

I can help you to make sense of what’s happened in a safe, non-judgemental and containing space.

I have a lot of experience working with relational trauma and I understand the importance of establishing safety in the room and in the therapy relationship before talking about what has happened even feels possible.
